In order to boost exchanges with international counterparts, the president of the NIDS participates in the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Meeting of Heads of Defense Universities/Colleges/ Institutions. In 2001, the NIDS hosted the 5th ARF Meeting of Heads of Defense Universities/Colleges/Institutions in Tokyo.
- Asia-Pacific Security Seminar
Since 1994, the NIDS has annually sponsored an Asia-Pacific Security Seminar (APSS), to help deepen mutual understanding and build trust among the nations towards the future. Field-grade officers of armed forces of the region are invited for exchanging ideas on regional security issues. This multilateral conference helps deepen mutual understanding and build trust among the nations towards the future.
